ORAL HYGIENE ADVICE

Looking after our teeth and gums is important and I'm passionate about providing everyone with us much information and advice to help keep our smiles looking healthy.

Care for 0-7 months

0-7 months

  • Breast feed your baby where possible

  • Use a baby bottle until the age of 1, and then wean them onto a toddler cup

  • Reduce consumption of all sugary/acidic food and drink

  • Brush last thing at night and one other time

  • Brushing should be done or supervised by an adult

  • Brush their teeth twice a day for around 4-6 seconds per tooth

  • After brushing, try to encourage them to spit out the excess foam. Do NOT swallow the foam or rinse out

  • Use a Children’s toothpaste containing no less than 1,000ppm fluoride

  • Try to use sugar free medicine where possible

Care for 7 to Adults

7 +

  • 7-12 year old should still be supervised when brushing

  • Switch to an adults strengths toothpaste containing 1450ppm fluoride

  • Reduce all consumption of sweet and acidic food/drink

  • At the age of 12 you should floss once a day

  • Using mouthwash does NOT replace the benefits of good toothbrushing.

  • If you are going to use mouthwash please use it in combination with good toothbrushing and at a different to toothbrushing such as in the middle of the day.
